Overview
This standard contains specifications meeting the essential requirements set out in Annex I of the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC which apply to machines that are first placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market, in order to facilitate proof of compliance with these requirements. Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union, it is deemed a "harmonized" standard and thus, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive ("presumption of conformity"). This document deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events as listed in clause 4 which are relevant to circular saw benches/up-cutting cross-cut sawing machines, hereinafter referred to as "machines", designed to cut solid wood, chipboard, fibreboard, plywood and also these materials if (where) they are covered with plastic edging and/or plastic/light alloy laminates when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer including reasonably foreseeable misuse. This document does not apply to: * hand-held motor-operated electric tools or any adaptation permitting their use in a different mode, for example, bench mounting; This standard contains the German version of EN 1870-5:2002+A2:2012 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 142 "Woodworking machines - Safety" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The following significant modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN 1870-5:2010-03: a) clause 2; Normative references, has been updated to new editions of the cited standards; b) in clause 4, the list of significant hazards has been revised with regard to EN ISO 12100:2010; c) 5.1,General, has been added and the subsequent subclauses in clause 5 have been renumbered; d) in 5.2, Controls, the design requirements for control circuits in certain categories have been replaced by specifications for performance levels; e) in 5.2.1.2, Use of protective devices, containing requirements for magnetic/proximity switches and time delay units has been added; f) 5.3.2, Risk of break-up during operation, has been revised with regard to the strength requirements for guards; g) 5.3.4, Braking, has been revised and the requirements have been given in more detail; h) braking tests have been moved to normative Annex I; i) 5.3.7.1, Guarding of the saw blade above the table, now includes further requirements for the adjustable guard; j) subclause 5.3.7.3, Access to the saw blade below the table, specifies that any access required for changing the saw blade shall be via a moveable guard interlocked with guard locking with the spindle drive motor; k) 5.3.7.4, Guarding of drives, specifies that any access is to be prevented by a moveable guard interlocked with guard locking with the spindle drive motor; l) subclause 5.4.3, Emission of chips and dust, has been revised to include further requirements; m) normative Annex F, Saw blade guard mounted on the riving knife or separately stability test, has been added; n) normative Annex G, Impact test method for guards, has been added; o) informative Annex ZA, Relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of EU Directive 98/37/EC, has been deleted and the former Annex ZB is now Annex ZA; p) the Bibliography has been updated.
