Overview

This supplement complements DIN EN 62305-3 (VDE 0185-305-3). It contains additional information and graphic representations which assist the application and understanding of the standard and also take into account new knowledge from the field of protection against lightning. For improved orientation and comparability with the standard the clause designations in this supplement correspond with the clause designations in DIN EN 62305-3 (VDE 0185-305-3). Subclauses, tables and figures supplementing the standard DIN EN 62305-3 (VDE 0185-305-3) are numbered respectively beginning with 101. The figure and table references in the text of this supplement that do not provide additional reference to the standard always refer to DIN EN 62305-3 (VDE 0185-305-3). A technical and economically optimized concept of a lightning protection system is only possible when the steps during the planning and installation of a lightning protection system are coordinated with the planning and installation steps of the structure to be protected. It is particularly advisable to take into account during the planning of the structure the potential use of metallic elements of the building structure as part of the lightning protection system. During planning of a lightning protection system for existing structures the special circumstances on-site shall be taken into account in the individual case. Only careful planning of a lightning protection system taking into consideration all necessary and sufficient information can lead to a proper and complete execution of the planned work. A component of the required planning documents of a lightning protection system is sketches and descriptions from which all essential details of the structure to be protected as well as the external and internal lightning protection system can be taken.
