Overview
The standards of the DIN EN 60728 (VDE 0855) standard series deal with cable networks including equipment and associated methods of measurement for headed reception, processing and distribution of television, sound and interactive multimedia signals, interfaces and their associated data signals using all applicable transmission media. All types of networks, such as cable networks (GGA-networks), GA and SAT-GA-networks, individual reception networks and all types of devices, systems and equipment installed into such networks are included. This part lays down the measuring methods, performance requirements and data publication requirements of optical equipment of cable networks for television signals, sound signals and interactive services. This standard applies, for example, to optical transmitters, receivers, amplifiers, splitters, directional couplers, isolators, multiplexing devices, connectors and splices. The following has been modified in the third new edition: The measuring methods for the optical power and return loss have been replaced by references to other standards. The measuring method for polarization dependent loss has been deleted. The measuring method for the carrier-to-crosstalk ratio (CCR) has been incorporated. The measuring methods for CSO and CTB of optical amplifiers have been replaced by the measuring method for microscopic gain tilt of optical amplifiers. This value can be used for calculation of second order harmonics of optical amplifiers according to the method described in the new Annex B. New classes for optical transmitters and receivers have been specified. The annex on specifications for data sheets of optical amplifiers has been revised and has become normative. The responsible committee is K 735 "Kabelnetze und Antennen für Fernsehsignale, Tonsignale und interaktive Dienste" ("Cable networks for television signals, sound signals and interactive services") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
