Overview
This part of IEC 62149 contains the performance standard for transceiver modules for asynchronous-transfer-mode passive optical network (ATM-PON) systems recommended by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) ITU-T Recommendation G.983.1. These modules are used in fibre optic telecommunications and optical data transfer. The performance standard contains the specified product performance requirements together with a set of tests and measurements with clearly defined conditions, severities, and pass/fail criteria. The tests are intended to be run on a "one-off" basis to ensure the product's ability to meet the performance requirements. The standard provides manufacturers and test laboratories with security regarding the specification of the test and serves as a reference for quality assurance. The responsible Committee is Subcommittee UK 412.2 "Komponenten für Kommunikationskabelanlagen" ("Components for communication cabling systems") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
