Overview

This standard applies for the design, selection, construction, modification, maintenance and expansion of electrical installations or apparatus in areas endangered by substances with explosive characteristics. When electrical apparatus are erected, modified, maintained or expanded in areas endangered by substances with explosive characteristics, the corresponding European Standards also apply. Thereby, the specifications take precedence which, for reasons of safety, are subject to stricter requirements. The responsible Committee is K 236 "Errichten elektrischer Anlagen und deren Betriebsmittel in explosivgefährdeten Bereichen" of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
