Overview
This standard is applicable to mains-powered or battery-powered information technology equipment, including electrical business equipment and associated equipment, with a rated voltage not exceeding 600 V. This standard also applies to information technology equipment - which are constructed for use as telecommunication terminal equipment and as a device for the infrastructure of the telecommunication network, independent of the type of power supply; - which are constructed and intended to be directly terminated to a cable distribution system or to be used as a device for its infrastructure, independent of the type of the power supply; - which are constructed to use the AC mains supply as a transmission medium for the communication (see note 4 in clause 6 and note 4 in 7.1). This standard also applies to components and assemblies which are intended for incorporation into information technology equipment. However, it is not expected that such components and assemblies meet the requirements in every respect if the complete information technology equipment, including such incorporated components and assemblies, meets the requirements. The responsible Committee is K 711 "Sicherheit elektronischer Einrichtungen für Audio/Video-, Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik" ("Safety of electronic equipment within the field of audio/video, information technology and communication technology") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
