Overview
This standard only applies to two pole appliance couplers for a.c., with or without earthing contact, the rated voltage being not more than 250 V and a rated current of up to 16 A, for household and similar general purposes, which are incorporated in electrical equipment or other electrical installations with multipart construction or which form a structural unit with them and which are intended for mains connection of 50 Hz or 60 Hz and which are dependent on the mass of the appliance to ensure correct coupling. The responsible Committee is Subcommittee UK 542.3 "Gerätesteckvorrichtungen" ("Appliance couplers") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
