Overview
This standard is applicable to thermal-links intended for incorporation in electrical appliances, electronic equipment and component parts thereof, normally intended for use indoors, in order to protect them against excessive temperatures under abnormal conditions. This standard can be applied to thermal-links which are not used indoors, provided that the climatic and other conditions in the immediate area of the thermal-links are comparable with that in this standard. This standard can be applied to thermal-links in their most simple form, such as fusible metal strips or wires, provided that melted materials which leaks during operation, can not adversely affect the safe use of the equipment; this applies particularly - and independently of its respective position - to equipment normally held in the hand or portable equipment. This standard is applicable to thermal-links with a rated voltage up to AC/DC 690 V and rated currents up to 63 A. The purpose of this standard is: a) to define uniform requirements for thermal-links; b) to define test methods; c) to provide useful information for the use of thermal-links in equipment. The responsible Committee is K 663 "Gerätesicherungen (G-Sicherungen)" ("Equipment fuses") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Informational Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
