Medizinische elektrische Geräte - Teil 2-59: Besondere Anforderungen für die Sicherheit einschließlich der wesentlichen Leistungsmerkmale von Wärmebildkameras für Reihenuntersuchungen von Menschen auf Fieber (IEC 80601-2-59:2008 + Corrigendum 2009); Deutsche Fassung EN 80601-2-59:2009
Overview
This International Standard applies to the basic safety and essential performance of screening thermographs intended to be used for the individual non-invasive febrile temperature screening of humans under indoor environmental conditions. It sets laboratory characterization test limits for the screening thermograph. These screening thermographs use infrared technology to detect emitted heat at the skin surface of the face. Screening thermographs can be used at ports of entry, ports of exit and at the entrances to buildings under indoor environmental conditions with the intention of separating febrile from afebrile individuals to help prevent the spread of communicable diseases. During the SARS epidemic in China the temperature of the persons was determined by infrared measurement to establish the elevated temperature, which was confirmed using traditional temperature measurements using a clinical thermometer. Although it is hard to determine the human body's core temperature accurately by infrared measurements of skin temperature, this is a potential method to detect persons with elevated temperature. This standard amends and supplements DIN EN 60601-1 (VDE 0750-1):2007-07. The responsible Subcommittee is UK 812.1 "Diagnostik" ("Diagnostics") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
