IEC 62005-10: Reliability of fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components - Part 10: High optical power reliability qualification

Abstract

This document outlines the approach that should be taken to incorporate field data into a reliability programme. Most pf the existing documents on the collection and analysis of data from field performance were developed from the perspectives of end-users, such as the telecommunications carriers. This document is primalily developed for compoment manufactures to provide them the guidance and requirements on how to collect the field data, keep the records, and analyse the field data, in supplement to the laboratory testing data, in the estimate of product reliability (e.g. failure rates). The major differences between the two types of field tracking methodologies are primarily in the considerations of the available information, and their respective strength and weakness. As an example, the carrier has more information on the field usage and replacement occurrence, but the component manufacturer has better control on the failure mode analysis (FMA). The component manufactures are more knowledgeable on the failure modes and degradation mechanismus. Therefore, the field tracking system planning and requirements should be different. This document is not intent to replace the field tracking documents developed for systems manufactures or system users, but it is developed for componrnt manufacures as a supplement document.
