Harmonization of nomenclature of portable primary and secondary batteries
Abstract
Nomenclature for the designation of batteries relevant to their chemical system shape, size and others are standardized in IEC for both primary batteries and secondary batteries, respectively. However, at present, these systems are different from each other and are not standardized between the two. In many cases, these batteries of the same shape and size are differently designated for primary batteries and secondary batteries. Consequently, it is very difficult to be understood by general consumers, and these are causing them a lot of inconveniences. When a new battery is developed and commercialized, it is often designated based on a nomenclature system, which is different from conventional system. It may lead customers that they use improper batteries for their specific applications.
