DETERMINATION OF CERTAIN SUBSTANCES IN ELECTROTECHNICAL PRODUCTS - Part 15: Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) in plastics by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS)
Abstract
This international standard specifies procedures for the determination of tetrabromobisphenol A in plastics by gas chromatography mass spectrometer (GC-MS) and liquid chromatography mass spectrometer (LCMS). Extraction of TBBPA in test samples will be carried out using ultrasonic or soxhlet extraction. Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) is one of the most common brominated flame retardants and it is widely used in various fields such as: electrical/electronics, mobility and construction industries. In spite of its versatility, TBBPA was registered under the EU REACH (Commission Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006) and EU RoHS Directive Annex II to include TBBPA. Moreover, It has been regulated in several countries due to its toxicity. It has been listed in ‘Prohibition on Certain Hazardous Substances in Consumer Products(PoHS)´ in Norway. TBBPA also has been regulated under the Chemical Substances Control.
