Low-voltage surge protective devices - Part 06: Requirements and test methods for SPD specific disconnectors
Abstract
This TS applies to SPD Specific Disconnectors (SSD) having an appropriate impulse current capability and intended for operation in systems rated up to 1000 V RMS AC and 1500V DC. SSDs are intended to safely disconnect an SPD from the power system in the event of end -of life of the SPD based on e.g. leakage current, fault current, over current, short circuit current, temperature. SSDs in conjunction with the relevant SPD provide a (full range) protection for all currents that need to be considered based on the various end-of-life conditions. SSDs are expected to withstand the SPD´s impulse rating. SSDs covered by this standard are stand-alone devices which include the requested switching capability, external to the SPD. SSDs tested according to this standard are designed to cover the protection against overcurrents for SPDs as required in IEC 60364-5-53. Note: SSDs are external SPD disconnectors according to IEC 61643-01 and therefore, according to the definition, are not generally required to provide isolation.
