Overview
This prestandard specifies the requirements for the design and operation of systems for fire detection and local warning of persons. Local warning is provided by signaling devices. The warning signals can be triggered by automatic detectors or manual call points. Systems that are required by building authorities or other approval bodies shall be planned, installed and operated in accordance with this prestandard, unless otherwise specified by the authorities. Requirements from the building permit and, if applicable, the fire protection report/concept included therein shall be taken into consideration. Areas of application for fire detection systems with local warning are in particular buildings with a particular risk to persons, for example - day care centers, - homes, - schools, - accommodation facilities (up to 60 beds), - special shared forms of housing for senior citizens and the disabled (as of seven persons), - refugee hostels. The operation shall be coordinated with the organizational alarm schedule and the evacuation measures. Building regulations requirements shall be observed. This prestandard describes a system configuration with selected EN 54 components. The individual components show the performance details that are relevant for the protective aims. The responsible committee is UK 713.1 "Gefahrenmelde- und Überwachungsanlagen" ("Alarm and surveillance systems") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
