Executive Board

The Executive Board manages the business affairs of DIN. It is responsible for the proper conduct of DIN's business in technical, organizational and commercial respects.

Christoph Winterhalter

Chairman of the Executive Board (CEO)

Mr. Christoph Winterhalter is the Chairman of the Executive Board of DIN, the German national standardization body. Before joining DIN, he spent more than 20 years in industry working for the ABB group. He initially worked in various engineering, R&D and product management functions in Germany, Norway and the USA before he became responsible business unit manager for ABB’s robot automation and robotics products business in Germany. In 2010, he changed to ABB Corporate research as director of the German Research Center until he was promoted head of ABB’s global Machinery Controls and Automation business end of 2013.


In July 2016, he joined DIN as Chairman of the Executive Board driving customer orientation and digital transformation within the standardization system.

Since 2017, he represents Germany in the European Standardization as member of the CEN Administration board and in the International Standardization as member of the ISO council. From 2018 - 2021, he was also serving as Vice President Policy of CEN and head of the CEN-CENELEC Task Force on China driving the strategic cooperation with the Standardization Administration of the People’s Republic of China (SAC). Since 2022, he has been elected Vice-President Policy of the International Standards Organization ISO, responsible for strategy and governance.

Daniel Schmidt

Executive Board Member (CFO)

Porträt Daniel Schmidt, Mitglied des Vorstandes (CFO)Daniel Schmidt was born in Herzberg/Elster, Brandenburg. After completing his business administration studies in Chemnitz, Schmidt held various positions with PWC Deutsche Revision AG and PriceWaterhouseCoopers AG in Chemnitz and Leipzig. In 2006 he qualified as a tax accountant, and in 2010 as a German public auditor. Starting in 2006 Schmidt held various management positions, being responsible for finance and accounting at the Überlandwerk Fulda AG in Fulda. His most recent position before he joined DIN was as audit manager of various teams at KPMG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft in Berlin.

Schmidt joined DIN in 2010 as head of the Accounting group. In January 2014 the DIN Executive Board appointed Schmidt as Member of the Management Board, Finance and Controlling Division, and as from September 2020 Schmidt has been a member of DIN's Executive Board.
