Tasks of Consumer Council
The Consumer Council sets the strategic and political guidelines for its executive body concerning:
- monitoring of all consumer relevant standardization work;
- prioritization of standardization projects according to consumer interests;
- consumer representation in standardization (national, European, international);
- advising and consulting DIN steering committees and working groups concerning consumer interests;
- decisions on standards proposals to be made on behalf of consumers (standards as instrument of consumer protection).
Tasks of Consumer Council’s Offices
- to investigate consumer concerns in collaboration with consumer associations, experts, scientists, authorities and others, eg. in the form of opinion polls and enquiries;
- to convert consumer interests into adequate technical standard proposals, comments, objections etc.;
- to represent the consumers and to advocate for them in appropriate ways in the relevant national, european and international committees;
- to co-ordinate and support the participation of voluntary consumer representatives;
- to participate in ANEC and COPOLCO activities;
- to brief and train voluntary consumer representatives in collaboration with other consumer associations in an annual three day seminar;
- to comment on draft standards from the consumer’s point of view, even if these standards are not part of the priority programme.
